Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck)

This procedure tightens the abdominal area and the sides, which is especially desirable when there is loose or sagging skin around the tummy, whether due to pregnancy or the relaxation of the muscles in the abdominal wall. The W technique incision is used and the Byzantine arch dissection to retain a more youthful and shapely looking abdomen, rather than an abdomen which is flat. The procedure takes approximately 1 and a half hours and the patient stays in hospital for two nights. The patient requires a period of approximately 10 days to completely recover and cannot resume sporting activities for a period of 4 weeks. In patients that do not have a tremendous amount of loose skin, a combination of liposuction as well as melon slice Abdominoplasty (which is the excision of a small amount of excess skin in the supra-pubic region) in a combination is a highly successful technique in treating this problem.

Pre-operative Instructions

1.Do NOT take Aspirin, Aspirin containing products, Arnica or high doses of Vitamin E for two weeks pre-operatively, ONLY post operatively to aid healing
2.Limit alcohol intake one week prior to surgery. NO alcohol the night before surgery.
3.Shave the top line of the pubic hair bearing area.
4.Purchase tight fitting pressure garments, such as pressure underwear (step in) before hand and bring it with you to the hospital.

Post-operative Instructions

1.It is very important to walk stooped over (bent at your hips) and to sleep with your knees bent (flexed) to reduce the tension on the suture line.
2.Walking upright or sleeping flat may cause the wound to open.
3.Steri-strips on suture line must stay on for as long as possible. Following their removal you will be advised to massage the scar with Vitamin E cream.
4.Pressure garment should be worn for 4-5 weeks post operatively.

Breast Reduction

This is performed via a superior or inferior pedicle technique depending on the size of the patient's breasts and the shape of their chest wall. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and the patient remains in the hospital for two nights. A support bra must be worn after surgery.

All sutures are absorbable and do not require removal post operatively. All efforts are made to keep the infra-mammary scar as short as possible without compromising the shape of the breasts.

3.Purchase a good support bra.

Post-operative Instructions

1.You will be bandaged around chest for 48 hours post-operatively.
2.Drains removed the day following surgery.
3.The wounds will be taped up after 48hrs to prevent the scars from stretching. This will continue for 6 weeks post-operatively as it takes 6 weeks for the scars to withstand stretch. The tape is changed every 4 days and you may bathe with the tape on.
4.A good supporting bra must be worn day and night for the first 2 weeks, removing it only to bathe. A firm support bra is suggested. After 6 weeks a lighter bra can be worn.
5.Swelling and bruising takes up to 6 weeks to settle.
6.Absorbing sutures are used and the ends of the sutures are trimmed 7 days post-operatively.
7.Painkillers are prescribed.
8.Scars take up to one year to mature. Keep out of direct sunlight for three months.

Breast Augmentation (enlargement)

Many women are not happy with the size of their breasts. The enlargement of the breast means that for many women they can appear better in clothing and have increased self confidence. There are a choice of implants now available on the market these include; Silicone, Saline or Hydrogel. We work with Silicone High Profile Crystaline implants. These are made in America and have a lifetime guarantee.

A small incision is made in each nipple and the implants are placed under the breast tissue. Scarring on the nipple is virtually invisible once healed, as the incision is made in the crease of the nipple. These procedures are performed under general anaesthesia and afterwards it is advisable to wear a good support bra for several weeks.

Pre-operative Instructions

1.Do NOT take Aspirin, Aspirin containing products, Arnica or high doses of Vitamin E for 2 weeks pre-operatively, ONLY post operatively to aid healing.
2.Limit alcohol intake for one week prior to surgery. NO alcohol the night before surgery.
3.Purchase a good but soft support bra with no underwire

Post-operative Instructions

1.Drains are left in the breast overnight to prevent blood collecting in cavity.
2.Dressing over nipple is replaced the day following surgery. Steri-strips are left intact and these may get wet so you can bath or shower post-operatively, however the covering dressing will need to be replaced after bathing.
3.Gentle massage is instructed after surgery to keep the cavity as large as possible to prevent capsular contracture.
4.A soft support bra with no underwire must be worn post-operatively for support.
5.Sutures are removed after 6 days.
6.Limit exercise for 2 weeks post-operatively.

Mastopexy (Breast Lift)

This is performed via a superior or inferior pedicle technique depending on the size of the patient's breasts and the shape of their chest wall. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and the patient remains in the hospital for two nights. A support bra must be worn after surgery.

All sutures are absorbable and do not require removal post operatively. All efforts are made to keep the infra-mammary scar as short as possible without compromising the shape of the breasts.

3.Purchase a good but soft support bra with no underwire.

A firm hold, cross your heart bra is suggested.
Keep out of direct sunlight for three month.

Liposuction

With this very popular procedure results are instant and can be dramatic. Although diet and exercise will help to remove fat, it often persists in areas such as the hips and thighs in women and the waist and stomach in men. This technique is performed largely under general anesthesia unless a very small volume is being removed. Small diameter liposuction cannulae are used to aspirate the fat by a vacuum pump through minute incisions in inconspicuous areas. Creating a smooth and aesthetic result without lumpiness. The results are permanent and rewarding for those who have hard to shift fatty areas.

Pre-operative Instructions

1.Do NOT take Aspirin, Aspirin containing products, Arnica or high doses of Vitamin E for two weeks pre-operatively.
2.Limit alcohol intake for one week prior to surgery. NO alcohol the night before surgery.
3.Pressure garments must be purchased such as firm support underwear or firm support cycling shorts (depending on the area undergoing liposuction).

Post-operative Instructions

1.Pressure garments are applied in theatre immediately after operation. These must be worn day and night for the first 2 weeks to prevent swelling and bruising - may only be removed to bathe.
2.Small incisions may be wet. You will need to replace small dressings post bathing. Do not make water too hot, as this will increase swelling.
3.Rest for first 48hrs. May get up to walk around to a limited degree. Limit strenuous exercise for approximately three months.
4.Gentle massage with Aqueous cream will help to decrease swelling post bathing before reapply pressure garment.
5.Sutures are removed after 7 days.
6.Swelling and bruising takes approximately 6 weeks for majority to settle. Final result after 3 months.

Otoplasty (ear corrective surgery)

Pinning of the ears - this works by bringing the ears closer to the sides of the head. The procedure is simple and the results are dramatic. It is performed either under local or general anaesthesia according to the wishes of the patient. Incisions are made behind the ear to keep the scarring to a minimum. Sutures are placed permanently along the cartilage of the ear, allowing the ear to lie closer to the head.

Poorly formed ears - are abraded with a small instrument and sutures are placed in strategic positions to reform the natural soft curve of the ear fold. Absorbable sutures are used on the skin so they do not have to be removed.

In both cases patients then wear a bandage around the head for 5 days post-operatively, then a bandage only at night for a period of three weeks.

Pre-operative Instructions

4.Do NOT take Aspirin, Aspirin containing products, Arnica or high doses of Vitamin E for two weeks pre-operatively.
5.Limit alcohol intake for one week prior to surgery. NO alcohol the night before surgery.

Rhytidectomy (facelift)

The natural process of ageing can result in the unsightly sagging and wrinkling of the face and delicate neck area. A "facelift" or Rhytidectomy works by lifting the face and neck giving a fresher more youthful appearance.

The procedure takes approximately 3 and a half hours and the patient remains in hospital for two nights. Sutures are all removed on approximately the 10th day and the patient is most presentable at this time. Bruising will have subsided and most of the swelling would have resolved. Final results can be seen after three months.

Every effort is made to ensure the incisions are as inconspicuous as possible. The pre-oricular (i.e. the incision in front of the ear) is cut onto the posterior aspect of the tragus so there is no scar visible. The incision behind the ear is carried high up into the hairline and is well disguised.

Patients may experience some numbness and tension in the neck, cheeks and ears during the early stages of recovery but this will subside within the first three weeks.

Pre-operative Instructions

1.Do NOT take Aspirin, Aspirin containing compounds, Arnica or high doses of Vitamin E two weeks pre-operatively, ONLY post operatively to aid healing
2.Wash hair the night before the operation.
3.Limit alcohol intake one week prior to surgery. Do NOT have alcohol the night before surgery.

Post-operative Instructions

1.The face is bandaged for 48hrs post-operatively to compress the area and prevent swelling and bruising.
2.A small drain behind the ear is removed the day following surgery and the face is re-bandaged.
3.You will be propped up in bed for 48hrs to limit swelling.
4.Avoid straining for first few weeks after surgery, i.e. lifting heavy weights, bending over forward or strenuous exercise.
5.Arnica can be started the day after the operation.
6.Your hair will be washed in the ward before discharge.
7.Sutures in front of ears are removed after 5 days and the rest of the sutures and staples are removed after approximately 9 days.
8.The majority of the swelling and bruising has settled after 2 weeks and it takes 6-8 weeks before all swelling has settled - this varies from patient to patient.
9.Make up may be applied after 10 days.
10.When washing hair a hairdryer may be used this must not be too hot as this may burn as some areas have decreased sensation after surgery.
11.Tinting and colouring may be done 3 weeks after the operation.
12.Scars take approximately 1 year to mature. Avoid direct sun exposure for 3 months.

Blepharoplasty - (eye lid surgery)

This surgery is designed to correct drooping eyelids, puffiness and minimise wrinkling around this very delicate area and is often performed in conjunction with a facelift.

Each individual case is approached once a diagnosis is made as to whether there is an excess of skin, thickening of the muscle or an excess of fat in either the lower or upper lid. These are then treated accordingly. In most instances the lower lids are now treated through a transconjunctival approach where there is no visible scar and the fat is removed from the conjunctival surface of the eyelid. Shrinking of the skin is necessary (i.e. in an older patient) and is attained using a Carbon Dioxide or Erbium laser.

Any swelling will subside within the first few days and stitches are usually removed on the 5th post-operative day. The patient may have some bruising around the eye region for a period of 7 to 10 days. Any patients who wear contact lenses should be prepared to not wear them for a period of two weeks.

Pre-operative Instructions

1.Do NOT take Aspirin, Aspirin containing products, Arnica or high doses of Vitamin E for two weeks pre operatively, ONLY post operatively to aid healing.
2.Limit alcohol intake one week prior to surgery. NO alcohol the night before surgery.

Post-operative Instructions

1.Ice packs are applied to the eyes post operatively to limit swelling and bruising. Continue for 48hrs post operatively.
2.Propped up in bed for first 24hrs to limit swelling and bruising.
3.Painkillers are prescribed if any pain. This is usually not a very painful procedure. Arnica can be started the day following surgery to limit swelling and bruising.
4.Tear gel is used in the eyes and on the suture line to moisturize. Use especially at night before sleeping, to prevent your eyes from drying out.
5.Gentle massage to the eyelids will be demonstrated to you.
6.Avoid straining for 1 week post operatively to prevent swelling i.e. Lifting weights, bending forward or exercise.
7.Dark glasses will make you feel more comfortable and hide the bruising.
8.Sutures removed after 5 days.
9.Make up can be applied after 7 days.

Rhinoplasty (Nose Surgery)

This procedure is performed under general anesthesia. The main priority with this type of surgery is to maintain a natural appearing result with no stigmata of unnatural surgical interference, as this is a very prominent feature. The aspects of the nose shape that concerns the patient are addressed and the rest of the nose is put in balance with the newly corrected nasal shape, bearing in mind the rest of the patients facial features.

Post operatively nasal plugs are inserted to prevent any bleeding inside the nose, and a small plastic splint is applied over the nose to prevent swelling and to hold everything in shape, for a period of six days. Following surgery the patient remains in hospital overnight and the nasal plugs are removed the following morning.

Pre-operative Instructions

1.Do NOT take Aspirin, Aspirin containing compounds, Arnica or high doses of Vitamin E two weeks pre-operatively, ONLY post operatively to aid healing
2.Limit alcohol intake one week prior to surgery. Do NOT have alcohol the night before surgery.

Post operative instructions

1.Nasal plugs are removed before leaving the hospital
2.The plastic splint is removed after one week

Calf Augmentation (enlargement)

This is performed through a small incision behind the knee and a custom made calf prosthesis is inserted into the medial compartment directly on top of the gastrocnemius muscle. The procedure takes approximately 1 hour in theatre and the patient remains in hospital for a period of one night. There is some difficulty with walking for approximately 72 hours post-operatively as the calf is extremely tight and the patient is usually completely mobile after 7-10days.

Chin Augmentation

This procedure involves the reshaping of the area using silicone implants, giving a fuller, more youthful appearance. This is done via a small incision under the chin in preference to an oral incision, which has an increased incidence of infection. The pre formed implant is placed beneath the periosteum directly onto the mandible and the area is closed with an absorbable suture. This is performed under general anaesthetic and the recovery period is one week

Brow Lift

This procedure minimises furrows between the eyebrows, a sagging forehead and low hanging brows. This is achieved through a combination of a brow and forehead lift where an incision is made 3cms into the hairline and the whole forehead is lifted until there are no wrinkles visible. The excess skin is then trimmed. This technique produces the very best results whilst maintaining a natural aesthetic appearance.

This procedure is performed under general anaesthesia and the patient remains in hospital for one night. Staples are used, as with a facelift, and are removed on the 6th or 7th post operative day.

1.The face is bandaged for 24hrs post-operatively to compress the area to prevent swelling and bruising.
2.Propped up in bed for 24hrs to limit swelling.
3.Avoid straining for first few weeks after surgery, i.e. lifting heavy weights, bending over forward or strenuous exercise.
4.Arnica can be started the day after the operation.
5.Your hair will be washed in the ward before discharge.
6.Staples are removed after approximately 6 days.
7.The majority of the swelling and bruising has settled after 7 days and takes 4 weeks before all swelling has settled - this varies from patient to patient.
8.When washing hair a hairdryer may be used this must not be too hot as this may burn as some areas have decreased sensation after surgery.
9.Tinting and colouring may be done 3 weeks after the operation.
10.Scars take approximately 1 year to mature. Avoid direct sun exposure for 3 months.

Laser Resurfacing

This procedure improves the appearance, texture and quality of the skin, reducing deep wrinkles and fine lines. Two different types of lasers are used, the carbon dioxide laser is used for patients with more severe sun damage and deep wrinkle lines, whereas the erbium laser can be used safely on the neck and back of the hands for pigmentation and sun spots as well as for resurfacing younger patients facial skin whose wrinkle lines are not too pronounced. The erbium laser resurfacing can be performed under local anesthesia while the carbon dioxide is most often performed under general anaesthesia. The carbon dioxide takes 8 - 10 days to heal and the patient remains slightly pink for a period of 2 months. The erbium laser patient are totally healed by the 5th day and the redness fades after approximately two weeks.

Lip Augmentation (enlargement)

The filling out of the upper and lower lip with fat and collagen injections has short-term results. A dermo-fat graft (i.e. a graft of the dermis with an underlying cuff of fat) has long term, excellent results. The dermis and fat is taken from the patient, where possible from an existing scarred area such as an appendix or Caesarian Section scar. The graft is prepared and shaped and placed on top of the muscle, underneath the lining of the lip through a small incision inside the mouth. This procedure is done under local anesthesia or often as part of a facial rejuvenation procedure. The lip swells for a period of 5-7 days but thereafter it returns to its most natural and youthful appearance.

Bleaching

This is done under the supervision of the Dental Surgeon.
Filling trays are made to fit your bite, which do not allow the bleach to touch the gums. The gel that goes in the tray contains peroxide of an effective strength

Power Whitening

Currently power whitening has become one of the most sought after elective dental procedures for people in search of whiter and brighter teeth.

How does the Power Whitening work?
Power whitening is the latest technology in teeth whitening. The laser like light is simply a source of concentrated, light energy. A special whitening gel is placed in the teeth and then activated by the laser like light. It works quickly and gently to whiten the areas of stained enamel. Teeth naturally darken as we age. Over time, exposure to tea, coffee, soft drinks, tobacco, and certain foods may cause staining, Discoloration can also occur because of certain childhood illnesses, medication, physical trauma etc. Power whitening is similar to at home bleaching. The major difference is that power whitening produces immediate results. The procedure is performed in 1 hour at the Dental surgeon practice.

Can Power Whitening remove stains?
Power whitening will remove discolorations with a sustained release action that will oxidise (Bleach) stains within your tooth. Your tooth structure remains unchanged. History and research show that all patients treated experienced some level of tooth whitening. Porcelain restoration (crowns, bridges and veneers) and white fillings do not whiten with bleaching agents, although stained white fillings appear cleaner.

How long will you teeth stay white?
Research and experience has shown that the whitening effect from power whitening treatment usually last for years. Teeth may darken again if exposed to staining products such as tobacco, tea, coffee, juices etc. However a monthly home boost treatment can be provided on request.

Is the treatment safe and simple?
Yes with little or no discomfort at all. The products have been used in Dentistry for over 100 years.

How soon will you see results?
Immediately, although your teeth will continue to whiten for a day or two after the procedure. Please note that depending on the stains the results may vary from person to person. It is important to avoid drinking or eating foods that stain the teeth for a day or two following the procedure.

Are there side effects?
There may be a little sensitivity for a day or two following the procedure. Use fluoride toothpaste for sensitivity.

Power whitening has become one of the most sought after elective dental procedures for people in search of whiter and brighter teeth.

Additional Procedures

The scope of fixed prosthosdontic treatment can range from the restoration of a single tooth to the rehabilitation of an entire occlusion. Single teeth can be restored to full function, and improvement in cosmetic effect can be achieved missing teeth can be replaced with fixed prostheses that will improve patient comfort and masticatory ability, maintain health and integrity of dental arches, and in many cases, elevate the patients self-image.

It is also possible to use fixed restorations to offer long term corrective measures in the treatment of tempero-manubulor joint and muscular problems suffered in the head and neck area.

A Crown (CAP)
A crown is a cemented restoration that covers or replaces the crown of a natural tooth. It reproduces the morphology (shape) and contours of the original tooth.

A crown replaces the missing tooth structure so as to allow protection of the tooth to further damage, and enhances the aesthetics.

Veneer (Facing)
If only a portion of the tooth is replaced by porcelain as ceramic, this is referred to as a veneer.

Veneers may be used to modify tooth shape, size, color, position, at the same time preserving most of the tooth structure, as minimal preparation of the tooth is needed in most cases.

Bridge
This is a fixed prosthetic appliance, permanently attached to the teeth adjacent to the missing teeth. A bridge, bridges the ?gap? where a tooth bas been removed.

Implant
Implant are used to replace missing teeth, for both aesthetic reasons and function. An implant is a cylindrical or tapered screw – shaped object manufactured from titanium.

Bone can adhere to titanium ( a process known as Osseo integration) which facilitates anchoring the implant to bone.

The quality, quantity and position of bon will determine the suitability for implants.

Dentures
Dentures are artificial teeth that replace missing teeth. Dentures may be removed by the patient.

Botox Injections

Botox works by inhibiting muscle contraction, resulting in decreased muscle tone. The results are very good and can postpone the need for future facial surgery, by preventing deeper wrinkles from forming. The surgery itself involves injecting Botox into the muscles in the forehead with a very fine needle. The injections cause little or no pain and take just a few minutes to administer – the results will be seen after one week. The effects only generally last four months and must be repeated to maintain a smooth appearance.

Post-operative Instructions

Post operative period in most instances is unremarkable and on occasion, a small bruise could occur. There is no pain after the treatment and the patient can return to normal activity immediately. Two to seven days after the treatment the muscle looses its ability to contract . The effect continues in most patients for a period of 4-8 months or longer and as a result the skin creases gradually disappear.
Improvement in the depth of the treated crease is in the range of 75%-100%

Perlane

This procedure is for shaping facial contours, such as cheeks, chin, correcting deep folds and for augmenting the lips. This has long lasting effects but is not permanent. How long the treatment lasts depends very much on the individual as the gel particles are slowly and harmlessly absorbed by the body. Most patients choose to follow up the treatment every 12 months or so. However with lips it can be anywhere from 9 to 12 months. This procedure affords the patient the opportunity to change or discontinue the treatment as required and is performed under local anaesthesia or in conjunction with another procedure under general anaesthesia.

Juvederm / Restylane / New Fill
As we age, sun damage and pollutants such as smoking damage the Collagen in the skin, the building blocks of youthful looking skin. Much of the moisture is also lost and the face seems to droop. This is where Dermal Fillers such as Juvederm, Restylane and New Fill are used, with minimal downtime and prolonged effects. These products are injected in to the face where the patient requires and the effects last up to one year. "Fillers" have remarkable effects on instantly softening the deep Naso-Labial lines around the mouth, reducing sagging cheeks, reducing sagging and wrinkles around the eyes and rejuvenation and Augmentation of the Lips.

The earlier the above procedures are started the better. Beginning in your late twenties is ideal. Yearly maintenance, plus a good skin care regime, balanced diet, a responsible exercise program and a healthy lifestyle will also help to defer the effects of ageing.

Titan Laser
A new exciting technology for non surgical alternative to a Facelift is infra- red light tightening of the skin called Titan Laser. This infra red light can be used anywhere on the body including the Face, Neck, Abdomen and Thighs. Anywhere one has loose and sagging skin. After the first treatment one can see an immediate tightening effect. The infra red light heats up the Dermis to cause Collagen contraction while preserving the Epidermis through continuous cooling. There is no pain involved and in addition, long term collagen is stimulated leaving the patient with a younger looking, tighter and rejuvenated skin.

Ideal candidates for Titan are men and women whose skin is beginning to show the signs of ageing around their neck and jawlines. Also post pregnancy mothers who have lost the baby weight but have not been able to tighten up the loose skin.

Photo Genesis
Photo Genesis is an extremely effective and safe procedure for skin rejuvenation, surface irregularities and Dyschromia. This breakthrough technology uses intense pulsed light to treat a variety of skin conditions. After a series of 5 to 6 treatments, the damaging effects of over exposure to the sun are reduced, pigmentation, redness, pore size and age spots are also improved.

Laser Genesis
Laser Genesis and Photo Genesis can be alternated with Laser Genesis which heats up the superficial Collgen with the laser and improves skin tone and reduces pore size. 3 D rejuvenation is when these two treatments are alternated at weekly intervals and combined with two treatments of Titan resulting in superior results when used together for a series of six treatments in total for non ablative skin rejuvenation and resurfacing with no downtime.

Transderm
The Transderm® system allows transdermal delivery of a cocktail of Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamins, Amino Acids and Anti-oxidants into the skin with no needles or injections. Used together with Microdermabrasion, the skin absorbs these products 5 times better than when topically applied. The cocktail of vitamins and Hyaluronic Acid "kickstart" the fibroblasts to produce Collagen and Elastin in the skin. After a series of treatments the skin takes on an amazing glow!

Mesotherapy
Mesotherapy is a practice of using microinjections to deliver Vitamins, Anti-oxidants and Amino Acids to the middle layer of the skin and has been touted as the latest breakthrough for skin rejuvenation, bodysculpting and cellulite reduction. The skin rejuvenation or "Mesolift" revitalizes the skin and is a wonderful compliment to the other skin treatments such as Botox, Dermal Fillers and intense pulsed light. The Mesolift is usually performed by 2 - 4 treatments spaced a week apart and maintained bi-annually.
